Night Vigil

I had seriously thought I'd become caffeine tolerant-I thought wrong. Couple that to a Pasta dinner followed by some traditional local Zi Char (stir-fry), and you get some serious gastromonic perturbations.
Now I know Somerset Maugham was quoted saying "The only way to eat well in England is to have breakfast three times a day", but this onslaught by what must be the local equivalent of a English-fry-up-on-steroids is really quite an assault on the system. The only slight consolation I got was from the fact that it didn't happen in some Greasy Spoon outpost under some cold-grey summer sky...

Plastic Canvas Project

We're all pretty familiar with the likes of stretched canvas over a wooden frame. Less apparent, is the fact that the modern version of an artists canvas, this time - in the form of a table top injection molded plastic armoured fighting vehicle - boils down to pretty much the same thing. First off, construction (a tad bit more involved than tensioning that piece of canvas over your wooden frame, but no less important), some texturing and suggesting of detail. I'll have to finish that before I get to the really fun part, painting to express the surface. Let's see how this project turns out.

The Trouble With City Life...

... is that it's all too easy to go down the road of the sedantary urban dweller. Not that I mind, but too much of it can get a little, well...tiring.

Plain Text

Weekend Submersible - That's essentially the feeling one gets when the weeks events have sort of been a little on the frenetic side of things. Fresh back from another wedding of a relative, it was more of the traditional fare. One starts to wonder about the relevance of these X-number of courses dinners. By the time you're through the 5th course, you're stuffed. And by the time you're through the 5th course and HALF the table doesn't turn up, your Puffer-Fish-Bloated stuffed. I sure could do with a simple weekend soak in the tub, or lacking which, a poolside chill out ain't too bad either. The flu bug didn't do much good either, so whilst I nurse the cold and the commandos in my immune system conduct their assault on them viruses, I hope I'll recover in time on Saturday for some serious court action...I hope.

Nordic

Fridge magnet collections can be entertaining to watch, with each national icon/vignette sparking a conversation to the experiences to which it is attached. And sometimes, you get a couple of hilarious ones you just cannot forget...

Alternative Landscapes

This came in the mailbox today. With summer almost in full swing in that part of the continent, it's a welcome "proof of life" from an old friend...

Back To Back

There are some days you wonder how it is that some major disaster was averted. Eventually, one surmises that it was nothing short of divine intervention, really. Perhaps it's to do with the bane of many a city dweller's life here in the blistering tropical island. In a city where the car has taken a somewhat demigod like status...it's a hassle to get into an "incident" that requires one to visit the workshop. A definite no-no. Having said that, it really pays sometimes, to go around in a beat up Toyota. You don't attract undue attention from a rare breed of "scratchers". Parking doesn't become a neurotic experience, and no fear of visiting those car wash facilities...the car, is being put in its place, as UTILITY. That's putting things in perspective I reckon.

Weekend Contemplative

There are weekends you never forget. Spending the greater part of a week looking forward to it, you know you've found that eclectic mix of quiet contemplation and chilled deliberation - a most welcome departure from the freneticism earlier on. Nice.

Time Sample

The world economy has come to a standstill as teams of 11 men from around the globe pit their ball skills against each other in a giant industry that happens once every 4 years. And so the office grinds to a halt, trading floors slams into a wall, and just about every other colleague around you, women and men inclusive, come in various forms of Panda-mo-nium...their eyes tell it all...and they make Captain Jack Sparrow's masacara look thin as a hair. Me? I worry about how long it takes to de-scale a coffee machine...

Of Weddings & Packages

And so it was one more to the scoreboard of "Weddings Attended". June seems packed chock full of 'em. It's a dilemma typically....to go or not to go. To pop in those red packet "votes" into that voting box or not...choices choices choices....sometimes it appears easier to tend to a farm and just worry about the crops. Bet that's how David must have felt before he became King...
Gripes aside, it's time to prep for the BBQ this evening. CG folks will be popping by for a little bit of a grill session, some electronica entertainment, then off they go for a round of World Cup mayhem...a pity I don't have cable, but then again...it might be a blessing as well. Who knows?

Weddings, dinners, travels and babies. That's one huge industry. In the light of the upcoming World cup, it's back to basics with some good golden brew and baby formula. Powdered type for them little ones, sparkling canned ones for their Dads and Moms. Welcoming the month of the World Cup with open arms...and cans of beer.

Post 一百二十三

It's really amazing what a load of sunshine can do for you when you're out on an unplanned "day shoot". No doubt it leaves you all sticky and queasy after working out a sweat, but hey, that's life in the City - might as well have it scorching hot (most of the Malls are air conditioned anyway...so what's a little bit of sun eh?).
