Auto Reverse

The crew (GA, ArtL, J) gathered for a brew once more. When the combined aged of them all exceeds 130, you can be sure there's a need to update each other on certain terms that don't exist/have become passe anymore in today's context (auto reverse, backmasking etc.)...ok...I sense an quasi-oxymoron brewing...but that'd be besides the point anyway. There was enough laughter to go round amidst the exchange and it was good to be able to spar once more on the creative level amongst contemporaries.

Justice Easy Excess Blue

Workshop day. The crew was here since 10 in the morning (General, AL and TYH). It was painting continuous smack into the morn'. AL and TYH had some stuff in the studio for a shoot. The General has something BIG planned. So stay tuned. Me...well, I was tinkering. Time to hit the sack.

5 Years After

Seriously, it's been 5 whopping years. Just like that. 5 years since we sat at practically the same table gobbling chock loads of processed dextrose (no wonder there's little fat...about 90% or so fat free they say)...that aside, yeah, the Jackrabbit and meself signed along the dotted line that landed ourselves a job. 5 years on, he comes with a wife in tow. Neat. Just makes me wonder what will happen in another "5 years after"...a rabbit platoon?

Recuperate

The "long" weekend did somewhat take its toll on me. Overnight painting sessions can be tough, especially when you know you've got a long day following. That being said, it's a four day work week. There's been quite a few since the beginning of the month, and that is a good thing. 3 more days and a wake up, and it'd be a similar weekend mayhem all over again. Nice.

Election Day

... and so we played.

Deep Disco

Dancing with cotton buds, brushes, turpentine, oil paints and the works. 6 weeks and a couple of hours later, I finally get some decent piece of work out. I'm pretty pleased with it really...it helped that I have good teachers. Time to prepare for the next piece, whenever that will be.

Buttery Smooth

That's really how the long weekend went. The all night build sessions, coffee chill outs, rain torrentials, the works. It's back to the grindstone. 4 day work week. Not a bad deal.

Today

There was the prolonged downpour every now and then...

And then, there was a massive airbrush Op, with AL, YH and the General seeing some heavy action.

Nostalgia

It's coming close to a decade since this picture was taken (I finally got around to scanning it into the system from the good ol' fashioned PRINT), and back then, it was with a 35 mm film compact, a Rollei if I recall correctly. It was a long trip in the making, and the train ticket had cost me close to ₤40. As a student, that's a lot! And so starting from London Waterloo, I did eventually arrive at Wool, along the outskirts of the Bovington Tank Museum. The trip was definitely worth the trouble, and it was nice to be able to chat with Mr. Fletcher, the man behind a great deal of brilliant reference books on Military History...I quite miss that place really, but the summer in that part of town, well, they have a term for it...that, I don't miss too much. It's close to midnight, time to hit the sack.

Instant Photography

We're used to toting out digital cameras around, but going back to the 60s, Edwin H. Land's invention did capture the essence of the power of spontaenity. He was pretty much ahead of his time really, and whilst he isn't around now, the spirit of his invention sure lives on. Come to think of it, he was REALLY capturing the essence of instant photography - nowadays, you can preview the image, but unless you have one of those compact thermal printers with you, you'd still need to make your way down to one of them print shops to get your prints (or upload them somewhere, somehow). Hmm, now Da Vinci too, was pretty much ahead of his time but well, that'd be another story all together...

Comeback

There are times you get blindsided by events that you never thought would happen to you...like someone you know who's loved one has passed on and it's effect on you, a carpark accident, or a silly parking fine...and when you compare the scale of the event that has transpired over that split moment to what may sometimes be considered a grander scale of things, then well, you go "Pack up and move on" instead of mulling over it too much. True, things like this are sometimes easier said than done, but nothin' quite beats the feeling you get when you patch up that wound, zip up, and carry one toward life's finer moments, of which there definitely will be. Consider Resilience, Tenacity, and dare I say, even Legendary. Almost off tangent, but I'd risk a little of a contemplative excursion. That being said, new week beckons, and they say May Day's coming soon. Can't wait. Time to contemplate.

Sunday Times

第一百日记

Since this was supposed to be the 第一百日记, thought I'd make it a little different. You'll need Chinese fonts to be able to decipher what the characters are saying, but failing which, the picture speaks for itself. +K spotted this, and the Greasemonkey whipped out his '40 to take the shot of the Audi....er...no....wait, Volkswagen....er...Gallardo Lambo...oh whatever. The semblance was, for the lack of a better word-uncanny... colour wise that is.

Weekend Review

Auf Wiedersehen: JLz

It is with a tinge of sadness that we bid farewell to JLz. He's been part of the congregation at COR over the short few weeks that he was here. But at least it is just auf Wiedersehen and we hope that he'd be back in this part of the Equator in due course.We're all praying that he'd get another tour of duty here in the Tropics. See you soon JLz.
(At least we made sure that he was fully decked out with some of the hottest Dim Sum in town topped off with some local dessert that should hold out till he returns). Gute Reise!

Impression, Saturday

I'm not quite sure Monet had our present day digital medium in mind (nor could he have possibly imagined) when he did his Impression, soleil levant. But well, 146 years on, here's what happened on one digitally prolific Saturday ...




... and so begins Impression, Digital (well, at least that's what I'd like to THINK of it as...). And whilst Monet and his fellow Frenchmen are credited with one of the most notable artistic movements of our time, we move across the Channel to visit a most clever invention brought to us by the English that broke the stalemate along the Western Front almost 90 years ago, brought to you right here on my table top in all it's 1/35th scale goodness (and almost 70 years of evolutionary changes)...
